While choosing gifts for a grandparent, think about their physical limitations and choose accordingly. For instance, most senior citizens have a low vision problem, so if you choose to gift books, pick the ones with big letters. You can also gift other functional items like big button remotes, big button phones, talking calculators and so on. Many of them also have a sugar or cholesterol problem, so if you intend to gift chocolates or eats – look out for the sugar or fat-free options. You can even add a personalized card or a bunch of flowers for a nice touch.
Most grandparents are sentimental and love to surround themselves with beautiful memories from the past. A photo of you with your grandparents as a kid set in an elegant photo frame is probably one of the best gifts you could ever give. You could also gift a beautiful framed grandparent poem or an exquisite album where they could keep photographs of loved ones.
Most seniors find the time to pursue their hobbies and interests in their old age. Find out what your grandparent is interested, if it’s a sport like golf, you can gift personalized golf balls and tees. If it’s gardening, gift some exotic plant or an easy-to-use garden tool that will come in handy.
Make up a personalized gift basket, put in stuff that you know your grandparent likes – puzzle books, a batch of cookies, CDs by his or her favorite singer, a bottle of wine – that should get you started. Complete the touch by covering the gift basket with transparent cellophane paper and attaching a pretty, hand-made card.
Pamper your grandparent. Gift a day at the spa or gift spa sets that consist of luxury bath soaps, towels, aromatic oils and so on. You can also gift luxury bedspreads, feather pillows, exotic teas, expensive perfumes and so on. Many grandparents shy away from indulging themselves with these, so a gift like this can make them feel really special.
If you have the time, how about putting any of the skills you learnt form your grandparents to use and creating a gift. Remember the time grandpa taught you to make a wooden bookshelf, why not make one and gift it? Or grandma’s secret recipe for cake that she passed onto you, bake a lovely cake for her or knit a scarf the way she taught you.
These ideas should get you brimming with energy and plans for a truly wonderful gift for your grandparent.
